How do I meet up with the group?

The tour begins in downtown Bordeaux at approximately 1:30 pm on September 10, 2012.   Pickup will be at central location near the historic center.  It is strongly advised that all participants arrive in Bordeaux the day before to avoid any missed connections with the group.  (Wine-Knows will be happy to arrange for early arrival accommodations).

What about airfare?

Group airfare has purposefully not been included to allow maximum flexibility in arrival & departure options. You may go early & stay over after the trip concludes.

Back

Is this class tax deductable?

All or portions of this tour (including tour fee, airfare, meals, & all cultural related events) may be tax deductable.  Items such as gifts, personal purchases, etc. are not tax deductable.

What about the C.E. portion of the tour?

France is our classroom so all culture related activities qualify for c.e.  There are a maximum of 30 contact hours available.  You may pick & chose the number of hours you wish from a menu of options.  For example, you can opt to do a small amount of pre-departure reading, and/or keep a daily diary of your observations during the trip.  Other choices include a host of venues such as outdoor food markets, winery visits, a church service, and hospital/clinic visit. (Provider approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing, Provider #13805).

 What accommodations will be used?

The following properties (many of which do not except tour groups) will be used.  At most stops, Wine-Knows has taken over the entire chateau.

Private 18th century Grand Cru chateau filled with antiques.  Often referred to as the “Versailles of the Medoc,” this fairytale estate is one of the most beautiful wine-producing chateaux in France.   You will have full run of the large castle and its magnificent gardens.

Wine-producing chateau within walking distance of France’s most charming wine village.  Each sumptuous bedroom is decorated with a different theme, but all boast handsome antiques, beautiful linens and luxuriously outfitted bathrooms.  Amenities include a pool and lovely vineyard-framed gardens.

Hilltop Grand Cru Chateau with panoramic views of the village of Sauternes & countryside.  Elegant and peaceful, it offers the perfect haven for relaxation.  Each comfortable room is different but all are filled with attractive period pieces and most have vistas of the surrounding vineyards.

What culinary experiences will be offered?

Dining experiences have been mindfully selected. Meals will be special culinary events, ranging from sophisticated Michelin-star restaurants (with tours of their celebrity chefs kitchens), to wine bars known for their excellent regional cooking & wine selection.

In addition to carefully chosen restaurants, this tour will feature winemaker lunches and/or dinners, a visit to a working farm, as well as a French supermarket &  outdoor market.

Back

What about clothing?

The tour will be business casual. Men need to bring a sport coat (tie optional) for the more formal restaurants, & women should plan a similar level of attire for these evenings.  Bring non-skid shoes for visits to wineries...they will be finishing harvest operations & floors will be wet & filled with a variety of equipment which can cause safety hazards. Also, pack a swimsuit as some of our hotels have a pool.

Back

What type of weather should I expect?

September in Bordeaux averages in the 70's during the day.  Evenings can be cool due to the cooling effects of the nearby Atlantic so plan accordingly.  Occasionally, rain showers pass through Bordeaux during September.  Packing a travel umbrella is advisable.

Back

What are my options as a single traveler?

The price is based upon double occupancy.  Should you wish to share a room, every attempt will be made to find you a roommate (most of the time we have been quite successful in doing so), however if we are unable to find you a roommate, you will need to pay the single supplement of $997 US.

Back

How much free time is available?

We have provided free time as detailed in the itinerary.  Furthermore, it is not mandatory that you attend all of the planned experiences, although most of our clients do!  This is your trip---if you would rather sleep in, shop, or simply chill out at a sidewalk café, then do it!

Back

Do you accept credit cards?

Yes.  We accept payment through PayPal (PayPal.com).  Since PayPal charges us a fee, this fee must added to the cost of the trip.
